Siberian Husky's are children with fur

While my little boy sleeps in his pen after a fun filled day at daycare, I started to catch up on things that I have neglected. One of my little joys is a blog that I follow of one my patients I took care of a few months back. She had a beautiful little boy who was born with a congenital defect. The proud momma started a blog for her little boy and of course I was very interested to see how he was doing. Every couple of days she would update us on his condition. Well after a couple of weeks of not checking her blog I just found out that her little boy passed away at the very young age of 6 1/2 weeks. I know it sounds lame but reading her blog reminded me of all the time I spent with our first little puppy at the hospital. You can never erase the memory of your little puppy or child with a million tubes every where. She was there and able to hold him when he took his last breath. Not only am I extremely sad for her and her husbands loss but it just makes me wonder why do people/pets have to suffer so much before they eventually end up passing. Our first little pup had so many procedures, tubes and staples that when I look back was cruel and we shouldn't have done any of it. But I keep trying to tell myself that we had no idea of what his outcome was going to be. Hearing her hurt and sadness come through her blog breaks my heart and I don't wish this on my worst enemy. This blog I am doing in memory of our little puppy that is up in puppy heaven with his other brothers and sisters.

Koda I was a beautiful grey and white Siberian Husky with striking blue eyes... every complemented his icy blue eyes. You could see how much he wanted to play even when he wasn't feeling well. He was the biggest fur ball and you could tell he was going to take after his dad (very woolly). Every husky has a howl, and they all sound different. His always made me laugh, even to this day when I think of it I start to break out in a sea of laughter. My only regret was not to have it on video... he sounded like a rooster! I swear he must have been a rooster in a previous life. He was the biggest cuddle bug ever and just wanted to be held all the time! When he wasn't feeling well he would walk around me in a circle then crawl into my lap and look up at me. He knew he was loved and safe! When he was in the hospital everyone there was so sweet, not only to him but to us as well. They always referred to us as Koda's mom and dad. They went out of there way to make sure we had our special time with him. They allowed us to see him when other facilities would say no. He had the best doctors and vet techs taking care of him. Even when he passed he was surrounded with people that truly cared about him. The staff cried with him and just hugged me letting me know that they fell in love with him as much as we have. Even to this day they still remember him. I had to call them a month ago after we brought home our little boy and they remembered us!

To anyone who has a child... and yes pets are our children, just know that life can suck sometimes. But when I look at where I am now I know I have a sweet little puppy that we love more than anything. We still have not forgotten our other pup, and miss him everyday!
The only time he ate willingly for us

He LOVED to crawl between your legs

A tired husky is a good husky!

What a week! Little Koda is not so little anymore infact we took him to get weighed at the vet last Friday for his flea and tick prevention meds.... well he has almost doubled in size since we have had him. He weighed in at a whopping 18.2lbs! But even since then we can tell he has gotten bigger. I feel like I'm raising a teenage boy who can eat us out of house and home. He gets 3 meals a day and 1 1/3cups each meal. I was worried we we over feeding him but the vet said he is actually the perfect size. I'm nervous to see how big he will get when he is full grown.

My parents came into town last week and Koda loved hanging and playing with them. We picked my mom up from the airport and she didn't even know I had Koda in the back seat, he was being such h a good boy. He loves riding in the car. That day we took him for a huge walk and happened to end up at petsmart. My mom bought Koda a new toy which he is obsessed with. It is a 2.5ft snake that squeaks at both ends. All day and night now he squeaks It. We have nicked named the snake Spartacus after aunt Tracy's pet snake.

On Friday night Jeff's parents came over and the entire family walked over to a restaurant called the lazy dog. You are actually allowed to bring your dogs to come and eat with you. Koda was like a movie star there. Every single person there had to pet him and give him love. He loved every second of it! He is such a ham!

My mom was also able to come see Koda in action at puppy class. It was the biggest class to date. It was nice to see other dogs there a ting out of conrtol and our little man just sitting there looking at them with a smug murk on his face. He was so well behaved! Yesterday moving day was in full force so I took him to daycare So he could run and Play. When I picked him up they said they moved him up to he big dog room and was loving every second of it! He tried to take a nap but he was loving it so much he would get back up and start playing again. When I got him home he slept the rest of the night. He was so tried that he was even slept until 11am! When he woke up he was wanting to go out and do something; so I took him for an extremely long run... the longest one to date. He is now fast asleep again! He was loving every second of his run... he kept looking up at me with his mouth all wide and when I said good job he would run faster! You can really see his breeds natural ability/instinct really take over when were on a run. He can run forever... I don't want to out run him so I have to make him stop then he realizes he is tired and thirsty.

Well we are pretty much moved into our new place just need to finish bringing over the little odds and ends. He is confused as to what is going on. Hopefully soon he will like it and relax a little More.

Puppy Socialite

Passed out after day care
Can't help but snuggle my baby when he sleeps
Koda playing with Chloe and Maggie
The kids climbing on Julianne
Gotta get a butt sniff in
Well we don't think Koda has any social issues anymore, he loves to play and run around until he is too tired to realize he is tired. The last 2 days we took him to puppy day care so we could get some play time and he is running around like there is no tomorrow. They even said that they are probably going to graduate him to the big dog play room next week. He is such a punk and picks on the little dogs and plays like he is a big dog. Hopefully he will get moved up so he can get knocked down a little bit. He needs to realize that there are bigger dogs than him.

Today we had a puppy play date with Julianne Miller and her little pugs. Maggie and Chloe are Koda's new girlfriends. They ran around and pooped themselves out and chewed on some chew toys with each other. It was also a first for Koda that he humped Chloe!!! I was shocked to see my little boy doing what he was doing! Good thing the date is already set to get him neutered. He is now sleeping so I can get to work and start moving our stuff to our new place.

Koda gets a shot

What a busy weekend for our little boy! Bright and early on Saturday we had our second puppy class. Koda seems to love going there since he always gets treats. Well he only gets treats for doing his task but he is learning quick! Yesterday he learned how not to jump, not to bike and play nice/constructively. It's a slow progress but he is learning none the less. There was another puppy there that we were able to play with; she was a golden retriever/german shepard mix. When it came time for them to play with each other she would try to play with Koda so Koda would play back but she got scared and ran away. It was quite funny to see her pick fights then run off.

Well after puppy class Jeff had to go to work to help clean up their server room. We were actually able to bring Koda since Jeff's boss brought his. His dog was a mix of a bunch of different dogs but had a good 40-45 pounds on Koda. The funny thing is, they have the same name... well kinda. His name is Dakota but they call him Kota. They had a blast playing with each other, and Kota taught our Koda how to play nice and if you are to play bite, bite nicely. They played for a couple of hours until Koda started to get pooped. When I brought him home he fell asleep in the car and barely had enough energy to eat lunch.

Well today he was still a little pooped was being such a good boy in his play pen. He even let us take a THREE HOUR NAP!!! Needless to say we were pooped as well. After our nap we all went for a nice long run. On our run we ran into another Siberian Husky in the park. He was a full grown dog and it is weird to see how big our little boy is going to be!!! We could tell Koda can tell the different between another husky and every other dog. He has a different look on his face and wants to be very affectionate! Now our little boy is running around the house hyper as a banche until he gets dinner.

1st trip to Petsmart

Our little boy was such a good boy today and let me sleep after I got off work this morning. Jeff took him to the park this afternoon and taught him a fun new game... FETCH! He is in love with his tennis ball. All he wants to do is chase his ball, but we are still working on him letting go of the ball. Later on we took him for a nice walk so Jeff could get a couple of things at Home Depot. Well what was right next door but Petsmart... well we just had to go in. Well while walking down the aisle to look for a new chew toy he found a little chew toy of his own. He was sniffing this little green frog. Well it was history from that point on... he has found his new found love! We walked home and all he wanted was his froggie. Froggie has a little squeaker in it and he is actually able to squeak it. For the next hour all he could do was chew it and carry it around the house. At the end of it all it was soooo wet from all of his slobber. Well once he finally calmed down he passed out, which is good cause bright and early tomorrow is puppy class.
He doesn't want to let go of his tennis ball

FROGGIE!!!!

Koda goes to work

Well against all my nervousness Koda went with Jeff to work today so I could sleep for a few hours. I was so sad having my little boy leave but I was SOOO tired! We can't wait for him to get a little better before we can have him go back to puppy day care. Again sorry if this is too graphic but it looks like we are kicking the diarrhea business and he is coughing a little less. He really only coughs when he really starts to talk or whine. Looks like the medicine is starting to work and hopefully either tomorrow or the next day we can start transitioning him to back to puppy food. Although he is really loving chicken! Yesterday before work I was cooking up a couple pieces and he was sitting next to me in the kitchen smelling the air; he was "OOHH is that what I think it is?!?!" I gave him a piece and he started to bounce around the kitchen begging for more (probably not a great idea). Well Jeff did take him to work for a few hours and apparently he loved it there! He brought all of his toys and his blanket. He just sat there playing with his toys while momma slept. Now if we can only get him to be ok in his pen again that would be a miracle! With all the diarrhea he was having we had to take him out every time he cried just in case he had to go. Well now he thinks if he cries we will come right away... back to square one i guess.

My water

Big hugs!

I got it... I got it!!!

Look at how tall I am!

The unblinking stare... He always wins!
